It is back to school for the Summerland kids. Johnny and Ava learn from principal Simon O'Keefe (Jay Harrington) that Nikki qualifies to skip a grade and go directly into high school. The important decision will raises concerns with Ava and Johnny about how it will affect Nikki. Ava draws on her own life and does not want Nikki to miss out on any opportunity. The statement bothers Johnny. He asks Ava if she has regrets for how her life has turned out. Ava suddenly realizes what Johnny is is subtly trying to point out.
