Get ready for the Rock Dawgs. Johnny and Ava have planned a serious rock climbing expedition for the weekend and Derrick can't wait. Part of his enthusiasm stems from the fact that old flames, Johnny and Ava will be spending time together. Derrick hopes it will rekindle the flame. When Derrick finds out that Ava is unable to make the trip and that Susannah has now replaced his aunt, he is not happy, but he accepts it. At the campfire Susannah and Johnny talk. Susannah is unsure about her place in the family. Johnny lets her know that she is the "glue" that keeps them all together. Susannah appreciates what Johnny has said and she kisses him gently for his reassuring words. But when Derrick spots them kissing, he gets the wrong impression and he starts to sulk. Johnny does the right thing and pulls Derrick aside to sort things out. When Johnny hears the young boy declare that Johnny and Ava love each other and belong together, he is taken aback by how Derrick honestly feels. When Susannah gets her chance to talk with Derrick, she shares a secret with him. She thinks Ava and Johnny should be together too. Derrick's face lights up at the secret and Susannah's affirmation.
