  Tragedy strikes Johnny's world when Mona is suddenly killed in a car accident. Ava finds her way back to Johnny's side and he finds solace in her friendship and support.  The mood dampens when Johnny and Ava overhear a phone message that Mona has left her share of the restaurant to Johnny. Johnny is overwhelmed by the gesture. The phone call also puts Johnny in a guarded state as to not let his feelings for Ava develop into anything further. When Derrick stops by the restaurant, he tells Johnny about the wonderful plans Mona had for her and Johnny's future. Derrick's words hit Johnny hard and when Derrick leaves, he sees Johnny weep. The next day Derrick comes back to the restaurant to check on Johnny. He reminds Johnny that just because something doesn't work out the first time, doesn't mean you shouldn't try again.  He also reminds him that Ava still loves him.  
     Johnny puts the past to rest. He honors Mona by changing the name of the restaurant to "Mona's Sandbar" and begins a new chapter. He takes off to go find Ava and try again.
